so i made the mistake of buying a monitor without doing any research on it. being the foolish self that i am just saw the price and bought it straight away.

so the only output on the monitor is VGA and my graphics card does not support VGA as an output.

i have 2 dvi ports, 1 hdmi port and 1 mini display port on my gpu. what would be the best way to connect the VGA cable to my gpu using adapters and such.

thank for your help guys.

GH would probably be a better place to ask - but didn't your gfx card come with a DVI -> VGA dongle? I know all the ones I've had in the past have.

You can buy a dvi to VGA lead rather cheaply. I believe ocuk have one.

We all make mistakes :)

This thread probably would have been better off in monitors.

Can you not just return it under DSR?

In my experience DVI to VGA converters don't look that great (although they may have been horribly cheap converters admittedly)

Return it.

Why would you put yourself through the horror of VGA, when your hardware is capable of more :(

The problem here is.. if you have a current gen AMD card, which only has DVI-D and not DVI-I.. If you have a card with DVI-I output, then a simple passive converter will suffice.. otherwise you would need an active converter (about £25ish), and its probably easier to just get a monitor that actually fits your outputs..
