Tried to defrost one the other morning by covering in kitchen paper and then microwaving for 30 seconds - the result wasn't good as when i tried to cut it in half it just squidged down and was a gooey mess inside.

Any way to actually do this and have it come out anywhere near what it was like before freezing?

I use the microwave but don't put them in for too long or they go all soggy like you experienced.

Try doing 10 seconds at a time until they thaw.

They only take about 30 ish mins to defrost. I take mine out as soon as I get home from work. Don't nuke them, they shrink and subsequently harder to slice open.

As above, if you have to microwave, then only give it a short blast on defrost (not full power). I take mine out the night before (usually have a bagel for breakfast) and it's spot on in the morning.

I slice before I freeze and then pop 'em in the toaster. It's not ideal as the toaster setting is wrong so I have to do it 2 and a bit times, but it's the easiest option IMO.

This.

If you are not capable of remembering to get it out the night before
