does anyone have any experience in hiring developers? One of our developers was actually hired after watching his posts for a while on here and after realising he knew his stuff and was local we bought him on board...

i realise that was a bit of a long shot though could anyone advice a better method to get hold of experienced quality developers?

we're after a php/database/javascript wizard ideally :)

google!

"manchester web developer" or where ever you live! Then take a look at their website and their portfolio :)

Forums, design/development community websites. Quite a few ways!

I would also look at advertising in programming or technical blogs/sites - the sorts of people who visit these sites will generally be doing so because of an interest in programming and hopefully will attract a better standard than your regular job site.

I have to admit I'm not in recruitment myself so don't deal with the business of actually getting people in for interviews so I could be talking garbage, but it might be worth a go!

Of course then you've got the problem of how do you test if someone is a decent developer in an interview situation!

If you offer the right about of money and get some one experienced to interview then in the current climate you should get shed loads of applications. If you want a quality developer then make sure you use one to interview the applicants... that simple really!:D

i've put the job on a few dev forums, nothing worth noting yet though...

reckon any of the big boys like monster.com are worth a look? if so which one do you think would attract more developer types?

in fact, would i be allowed to post a job on here? i kinda doubt i'm allowed but the fact is loads of the people that come on here would make great employees? if not no worries still interested in the monster vs. others question...
