I have a dire Peugeot 207. I need aux (3.5 mm head phone jack) to listen to songs/audiobooks whilst driving.

What's the best way of doing this.

I've tried a £15 radio transmitter - it's awful.

How about the Parrot systems? Are they any good?

Replace the head unit - get better sound quality, bluetooth, aux, usb etc etc. Fitting parts depending on whether you have parking sensors and/or steering controls ranges from about £40 up to £100 then £80 for a decent head unit

Had a parrot system for about a year and half now. Got one of the MKi9200 off the bay second hand for cheap.

Probably one of the best upgrade for my car I've done, apart from a dash cam.Was a little fiddly to install and had to get one of my old colleagues who's really into cars to help but works perfectly. I use the bluetooth pretty much all the time i'm driving and its never faulted.

It still has the option for USB/aux i believe.

My girlfriend's old 207 had a 3.5mm aux input in the glovebox - does it not have one? It's not immediately obvious when you open it IIRC.

Failing that, this:

New head-unit :) Or check to see if your current head-unit has support for one (e.g. some spec models of the same car use the same head-unit but leave some features unconnected) - you might just need to buy a cable and connect it up.

The problem with the replacement head unit is they all look like a 17 year old's DJ setup - i.e. awful.

And I'd like to retain steering controls.

Okay, recommend me a single DIN stereo with aux.

I have a 207, with an aftermarket head unit, and bought the right cable to work with the steering controls. I can change the time and settings while also using the volume etc. It was a connect2 cable, not an autoleads cable. I can have a look later what cable it is if you'd like :)

I got an iClever Himbox HB01 for my Focus.
Small disc that attaches to the dash magnetically, a sticky backed magnet is supplied. Has a big button for play/pause/answer/end/google now, and prev/next buttons.

Connect phone to it with Bluetooth, music and calls all work fine. Was £14 when I got it, come with a two output cigarette lighter adaptor too. But I needed to get a jack extension lead and usb extension as ford in there infinite wisdom put the aux input in the glove box and the second cigarette socket in the arm rest!

Not all of them; try JVC, Pioneer and Alpine.

Personally I'd go for one with USB, that way you can change tracks etc via the headunit instead of the device you're connecting to it and you get the track info on the screen.
