Best way to get HDTV without paying Rupert Murdoch ?

If I get a freesat set up, will I get the HDTV channels from the BBC and any other free to air channels ?

If I sign up to a Sky HD TV deal for the 3 months 'get everything' deal, can I then turn round and say "get lost" and just end up with the box and HD TV ? Or is it like a mobile where you need to stay for a year under contract ?

You can get a HD Sat receiver. Pace and Humax make some. You can get BBC HD and also 1080i, there may be a few other channels too- not entirely sure.
