hi,

moved into a new place and there are 5-6 tree stumps in the back garden, managed to dig one out, but based on its size theres no real way i can do it for the ones left.

any suggestions as to the best way to get them cleared, and if possible rough idea of cost.

cheers

You can put some kind of acid in the trunk - we had this at our old house, we cut a hole in the top of the trunk and poured this mixture in it, topping it up every week until we'd used it all. Trunk rotted away within a few months and literally fell apart with a couple of hits of a lump hammer.

That's probably your cheapest option unless you know a guy with a mini-JCB or similar.

Mini Digger. They're awesome fun if nothing else :) 3 ton one should do, if you don't mind it driving over the rest of your garden.

i'd have to drive it over the rest of my house to get it into the back garden lol.

thanks for that, any idea what it was called ?

I got rid of ten plus in the front garden by using a long wire cable and ratchet, use the others as a leaver to pull each out in turn.

They have a branch in Telford, it's a very good price for a day.

cheers matey.

the one i got out was about 1 foot across on the the surface and after digging it out the roots on it and the base of it were 2 feet across.

the others are bigger, around 1.5/2 feet on the surface, so not really looking forward to finding out about the roots.

according to the neighbour they are all the same trees, so imagine the roots are going to be fairly similar spreads.

cheers for the pick axe idea Makhaira, but the stump grinder is looking favourite at the mo.
