Best way to go from jailbroken 4.0.1 to jailbroken 4.1 (when it's out)

As I'm sure you all know, 4.1 jailbreak is almost ready for release and works in the same way as some of the older jailbreaks.

My question is, what will happen if I go from 4.0.1, upgrade through iTunes, then jailbreak 4.1. Will I lose all my Cydia applications I've installed, or will they all re-appear when I jailbreak 4.1?

What would be the best way to do this? Restore a 4.1 image, restore my backup from iTunes (which won't restore any Cydia files/applications I assume?), and then jailbreak and reinstall Cydia apps from there?

I guess the above would be the cleanest as it would remove all traces of the previous jailbreak and Cydia files?

I'd really like the cleanest way of doing this, but don't want to lose my official apps or settings. I don't mind losing my Cydia stuff.

Thanks.

If you restore/update you loose all of your cydia applications, and sources you have added. (I make a list of both of these so i know what to get again)

So you would update to 4.1 and then have to start over again. Updating the iOS shouldn't remove your other files so your be fine... and if it does you have the backup anyway.

Hopefully you clicked the button anyway on front page of cydia so it says like "SHSH: iOS .......) mine says 3.2.1, 3.2.2 on my iPad. So if there are any problems you can go back to 4.0.1 by finding the firmware on the net :)

EDIT: Though I have YourTube on my iPad.. i went upto 3.2.2 by 'mistake' which meant I couldn't jailbreak. Once i got back to 3.2.1 i jailbroke again and got YourTube again. For some weird reason all the videos I had downloaded were still listed though none of them played. So i had to delete the list and start over... having a few problems still with it at the moment though - need to look into it.
I'm sure i've also had another cydia application 'save' stuff' when i've gone to jailbreak again on my ipod.

Yes, it says SHSH: iOS 4.0.1, 4.0.2 on mine. I've also got the SHSH files on my PC, not sure if you can downgrade using the ones stored on your PC from Umbrella?

Basically, when I install 4.1 I want it to be as if I had never jailbroken the phone so I can get the cleanest possible upgrade and new jailbreak.

Not sure about Umbrella thing.

Well I doubt there is a cleaner way then just upgrading to be honest. You could restore (which would also download the latest firmware, if you really wanted to. But I couldn't see the point)

I'm just thinking a firmware restore, then a backup restore might be cleaner as that'll replace every file on the iPhone rather than just the updated ones, or does an iTunes upgrade do that anyway?

Well yes if you don't use a backup then it will be like brand new.

The upgrade won't affect your normal files, just the cydia related ones.
Why do you want it to be spotlessly clean anyway ;)?

I would simple just update: jailbreak: and go ;) As there's no need for anything else imo

Restore when the jailbreak is out. This will make you download 4.1.
Restore from backup - This brings everything back (I'm not sure about texts as i don't have an iPhone but surely that's the point)

It pretty much is 'new' once restored but obviously using your backup brings back settings so its then not new ;)

Then apply jailbreak
