As per title really. Going to get the samsung 250gb ssd and wondering what is the best method to upgrade to it with my current drive.
Is it just a fresh install of everything along with my current drive or is there a way to transfer everything over to it that I want?

Fresh install is always far better.

I've seen this said many times and places and t's something I advocate myself as I believe that a fresh install is always better regardless of the drive type...but why? I've not managed to find any evidence supporting this statement.

I just got my first ssd yesterday, 840 evo 250gb and I.went for a fresh install tbh, even.though I.knew Id ne facing quite the issue getting my kb drivers installed again (dont ask lol) but just to be sure everything works (however I wad iI need of a fresh install anyways so that.may have had a bearing on mybdecision)

clone it if it will fit, never had issues as its the exact same data just on a different drive

if it wont fit then fresh install

If you clone your HDD to your new SSD, making sure partition alignment is correct, then there is usually very little to be gained by doing a fresh install (apart from a placebo effect, and a "tidier" PC), unless there were problems with your system before the SSD upgrade.

There are a few "tweaks" that need to be done (switching off automatic defragmenting etc). The Samsung Magician software takes cares of most of these things if you install it and use "OS Optimization". Probably best to enable Over Provisioning too.
