i have an SB audigy 5.1 in atm, with windows drivers and not running any creative software.

whats the best way to uninstall it and install my x-fi ?

cheers

Anything could go wrong with X-fi!

Some people report more success with using the lowest PCI slot for the card.

Do you have a retail or an OEM card?

will i actually note a difference in audio quality ?
Wait and see, you should do as long as you have some half-decent audio equipment. EAX 5.0 games should definitely be improved in terms of effects and 3D positioning etc

They say it depends on your speakers, but I have a £10 plantronics headset and I can definately notice the difference !!

warranty ???????

got a problem lmao

If you have a subwoofer, follow the steps below:

 1.
Click the Bass tab. The Bass Management options appear.

Click the Enable Bass Redirection option.

Drag the Crossover Frequency slider to adjust the low pass frequency range.
 2. Select the Subwoofer Gain checkbox.
Well i have a subwoofer and ive selected 2.1, but i only get "bass boost" and not "bass redirection" options. grrr

But technically there is no difference between the OEM or Retail version card is there?

so your problem would have occured on either?

so why sell retail and oem then ?

Retail = for end-users, OEM = for system builders. The difference is that with OEM you don't get the box, manual, CD's and any other accessoiries, just the card.

Driver support is limited with OEM. I have an OEM Xtreme music and I can't just get the drivers off creative's website, they don't work

You made a good choice getting retail

They are 100% available though. I have downloaded them and been using them for 3/4 months now...

That's very kind of you. But should not be necessary

What I managed to do was install off the CD but that gave major unplayable issues in BF2142 (among other things) then I did one of the auto update things from creative but the first time round it didn't work at all meaning I had to start all again.
It did work the second time, but has left me with the various problems I've got now; crackling in arty strikes in 2142, sometimes the sound card doesn't load at all, my mic cuts out, PC loads with high-pitched noise (stoppable by changing modes), I could go on.

I've search around and I see Guru3D may have some ones that work. I shall try and see what happens.

Thanks for the offer though eracer
