Thanks, i did read that but there is quite a bit of difference in starting off from scratch and actually applying for a license.

It's why i asked...

you need a friend with a bike and lots of space. might be better goind to a proper bike training place. they'll teach you properly.

I don't know anyone with a bike, not even a scooter lol, i did do a small bit of research on the training schools but the closest one is pretty far away for me at the moment, guess i need to wait even longer :(

Did you read the whole thing? Particularly the part about doing a CBT?

of course, but i would prefer to have a little experience not under pressure or what not (with friends for example), even if it's the complete basics before going on a "test" of sorts.

Your reading skills are impeccable :p

The CBT (compulsory BASIC TRAINING) is designed to teach those with no prior experience how to ride a motorcycle. You will not be under pressure and it is not a test, at worst they will suggest further training if required. Either way, this is how you start learning to ride a motorcycle.

If you're still not convinced, I've read of people here doing a free 1 hour session with training schools in their local areas.

yeah i get what you are saying but i was going off this part "The CBT is not a test but in the very rare occasion you are either a danger on the road or not competent enough on the bike they wont issue the CBT pass certificate"

Doesn't matter though i shall check around once again see if there is anything local.

I wouldn't even bother with the 1 hour thing. Get straight onto your CBT. It's designed for people with no prior knowledge. I, like many others here, had our first experience of riding a bike on the CBT. I'd been on a bike a couple of times as pillion, but never actually rode one until I did my CBT.
I was nervous (shaking like a dog ******* razor blades comes to mind) at the very start of the day, wondering how things would go and what not. By the end of the day, I'd had a great, albeit cold, ride. From there, within a week, I was on my DAS, and after a few weeks, I had my licence and first bike. Best decision I ever made.

I agree with this!

If you know absolutely nothing right now maybe watch a few of the basics videos on youtube. Then phone your local CBT place, turn up, listen to what the nice man (or woman) has to say and ride around some cones for a few hours, then a bit on the road and voila you'll have your CBT.
Then either get a cheap 125cc to practice with for a few months or just go straight for your DAS and a week later you'll have a full licence.

Then be careful :)

Thanks all, i never even thought about looking at some vid's shows how stupid i am lol. it's all appreciated always wanted a bike and now i'll need to start saving up for one :p leaning towards the cruisers more if im honest. i'm not the smallest guy out there and i think i would enjoy them a lot more. and i'm always careful there are enough idiots around my area who don't even know what an indicator is let alone how to drive lol.

again thanks for the advice.

Also if you can ride a push bike, thats enough skill to go through the CBT, it really is easy to do it. The worst part of it is the road section, if your not used to being on a road with no protection from a cage you do feel a bit exposed! but all in all the real learning starts after this.

Thanks, the "cage" doesn't bother me so guess i should be ok lol

I didn't even feel like my CBT was a test, just a damn good day out on a bike for the first time and having a blast :)

Sounds good to me, can't wait :p

have you booked your cbt?
I've got mine on Sunday and I'm looking forward to it.
I've used youtube to learn gears and clutch control and I'm pretty confident I'll know what I'm doing on the day.

Nope not just yet, i want to save up and have enough to get myself a bike if i enjoy it as much as i think i will :p

I don't want to pass, get a license and just let it sit there for months/year and not do anything.
