this is something that has always annoyed me when gone wrong and i'd like to know a solution.

say i have a large folder with a lot of sub folders and files that i want to move from drive C to drive D. i then start moving the folder and find it takes 1.5 hours to move to leave the pc. say i accidentally click cancel whilst the progress bar is 50% way through or perhaps i run out of space so have to cancel. this leaves me with half the files moved and half not, which can often leave duplicate folders which i then annoyingly have to go through to see where moving ended, then copy each sub folder one at a time.

is there a better way to move large folders so this doesn't happen in future and if it does, a better solution?

Just move the entire lot again and choose to "skip" existing files if duplicates exist, this will only move over files that didn't move post "cancel".

Move/Copy routines are fairly logical in Windows and it hasn't changed for a long time.
