Ok another strange post proberbly but this one has a diagram...

Diagram Here

Which is the best way to point a Zalman 9700 aero flower CPU cooler (when i get one) to get the maximum cooling? It will be in an antec 900 on an asus P5W DH, with a QX6700 Quad core (when i get it all).

The diagram shows the big 200mm fan on top and the back 120mm fan along with the chipset heat pipe

1) pointing up the big fan would suck air through the cooler with the back fan pulling air accross the cooler and chipset heatpipe.

2) pointing to the back the fan would suck less air through the zalman but both would fascilitate air accross the heatpipe and the big fan across the top of the cooler.

Hope i have explained this understandably, i cant weigh up which would be the best as both have advantages

Just incase anyone needs to know I do intend on overclocking

Thanks in advance

I think I'd have it pointing out the back to pull extra air over the chipset cooler. You could always try both and monitor temps to see which is the best option.

Just to confirm things..

Are both fans pulling air out of the case at the moment (with the front case fans pulling air in)?

I think you need to view the whole case (holistic view) to ensure that the air flow is smooth and you don't create low flow spots. With this in mind, I would orientate the Zalman with the 120mm fan (i.e. pushing air towards the 120mm exit fan).

to confirm yes both the 120mm and the 200mm fans are extraction fans, there is two further 120mm input fans on the front of the case and the possibility of a further two.
