i have a d3100 and want to try photograph fireworks next week but i have no idea what is the best way to setup my camera to take pics of fireworks.I have had the camera a couple months but i haven't had the time to play with it.I am still trying to understand all the lingo,i am just using the auto settings at the minute until i get some sort of understanding of how to use manual

Tripod and a bulb exposure will be your friend - start the exposure and stop it after say 3 or 4 fireworks go off, work out what what exposure you need to get a nice composition and just keep using bulb mode through the night. Trying to get it all in single, handheld shots won't end well
