Hi

if the house router is on the bottom floor of my home, and I am situated 3 floors above (4th floor), should I purchase a wireless extender, or try to thread an ethernet all the way up..?

depends on how easy it is to get a cable up there...wired is best though IMO......if you have a pipe box that runs from the ground to the attic then try and get it fed down from there....
or call virgin out for £40 and make it there problem

your forgetting ethernet is stupidly expensive for what it is...

my cable was 15m for £50... all because i wanted wired insted of wireless :D

Where were you shopping , can get 15m for £2 on a certain auction site!

Could get powerlines, speed probably wont be the best though. And make sure the two sockets in question are on the same circuit.

Uhhh.... 20 meter cable is £1.93.... Not mentioning where from but it's pretty obvious :P

and before you may wonder, no there's no real difference between a 15meter £50 cable and a 20meter £2 one :P

Nothing wrong with wireless

My netgear card has served me superbly the past 6 years or so. Although I am purchasing a 9db aerial to replace my mini one that came with the card all those years ago.

and I still get d/l speeds of certain files up to 950kb/s.

but yeah, pops is thinking about those power socket connector things, they're pretty cool.
