I want to wipe my existing machine (C drive), and install a fresh copy of XP.

Can this be done from the XP installation CD (ie: format and install)?

Or do I simply boot into my current Windows XP and format its own C drive from there, and then fresh-install from the CD?

boot from the cd, and remove partitions, then re-create them (that's what i do)

good idea to slipstream SP3 into the disc

easiest way to do this.

download the xpsp3 exe
install nlite
copy your xp cd to say C:\xpcd
point nlite at that dir, and select service pack and bootable iso
create either an iso or directburn to a blank cd

if this is your first time using nlite, i'd ignore the other options for now, this will create a clean SP3 disc for you :)

^^don't bother with 'full format', all it does is a crappy disk check

Cheers! I did a quick re-install from the CD last night and was surprised to see all my data was still there!

So I'll follow your suggestion this time of nuking the partitions and re-creating them! Thanks! No problem creating 50gb/200gb (C & D) partitions from XP installation?

FYI - The XP installation disc can only partition upto around 132gig ! So half my 250gig drive was left out in the cold!
