Im putting in new worktops in the kitchen but have a really nice stone sink that i want to keep. The fitters I've had round for quotes have all said there is a good chance of chipping or cracking the sink on removal as its siliconed in to the existing worktop.

What's the best way of removing it? can you buy a silicon dissolver maybe? if i can run a blade around it and maybe soak it in something to try and loosen it up, even if it takes a few days , then i'd rather try that than losing the sink.

Your on the right track just taking your time and don't rush, if you use silicone remover make sure you test or protect the stone sink as it may damage or stain it.

Silicon remover kind of works.

I would suggest a multitool, carefully use that to cut through the silicon.
You can do with a knife but its hard work, a multitool on slowest setting should do it fine

This.
Silicon remover works, but it's not a magic wand. It's a bit like trying to dissolve the Matterhorn with a kettle descaler.

Surely a craft or stanley knife to cut the silicone would do it? I assume the worktop isn't being kept so rip it apart to save the sink?
