I've got some of those little tack things with the half loop that you hammer on to the skirting board but was wondering if there was a better way of doing it?

If you want to do it properly you can get skirting board that is hollow behind which you can run cable through

If you have laminate or floors that can't be lifted (like carpet) you can get hollow edging quadrant to run cables through. Or you can get small mini trunking and affix to above the skirting for discreet way to run cables.

You shouldn't run cable under carpet where there is a lot of traffic, e.g. accross a door way / through the middle of the floor etc, as the wear can wear through the cable.

Do you have a link for some?

b+q cheap skirting can be put on so it is angled at the top or if turned over, has a round edge at the top.... mine is round at the top which gave me a nice hollow atthe back for my AV cables :)
