Hiya folks

I've had an issue which required a re-install.

So far I have been re-installing for nearly 2 days. Migrating/Backing up outlook so I don't lose the calendar has been a nightmare.

So whats the best way to set this all up again.

If I have to I will format and re-install again in order to get it right for next time.

Is the better that I create 2 partitions 1 for OS and another for Programs. Then when I back-up the OS it'll be quicker and easier to restore.

Personally, id create two partitions one for the os and the second for your data. Then format, reinstall, install updates, programs etc and create an image at that point of the os using something like clonezilla.

you'll be able to restore the image then if you have any problems

The reason for doing th re-install was because of a database corruption issue.
Microsoft Autoroute shares a database with other programs and something went wrong. This stops Autoroute from running. You used to be able to call MS and they would dial in and patch but Autoroute 2010 is no longer supported so re-install is the only option IF that happens.

Thanks Microsoft

Autoroute, now theres a blast from the past!

If you keep your data on a separate partition, will that not mean the database that is the problem doesn't get wiped?

I've not yet managed to track down what "database" this is.

I get "Error: A Licensing initialization error has occurred, 0xc004D301" As it tries to start the program. I assume its something within windows.
Microsoft said:
This problem may occur if one of the following conditions is true:

The Activation Licensing database is corrupted.
The permissions or the security settings for your Windows user account are insufficient or corrupted.
A change has caused a conflict between where MapPoint or Streets & Trips saves its templates and the default location of templates for Microsoft Office.

However following their info online doesn't fix it

I've got Arcronis setup doing a weekly backup of my boot and apps drive. It transfer the backup to a 250 Gig drive, which when full I transfer the images to 2 TB drive in my system and an external HDD which is kept off site.

Really should employ the same mechanism for all my data really but that I'm going to need more than a 2 TB drive for that.
