I've got a Toshiba laptop that I got around the end of last year and using it going from my main pc is painful. The thing takes forever to do anything.

It's spec

i5-4210u @ 1.7ghz boost to 2.4
8gb Ram
R7 260m 2gb
1tb HDD.

I'm guessing my best bet would be take out the 1tb HDD and pop a SSD into it. I use it as my music pc with iTunes as I don't want to clutter up my main pc but I guess I could pop it the 1tb into my PC and use it as music on there (kinda pointless as I use spotify but I have a 160gb iPod for my car which needs updating every couple of months)

What do you think? SSD is the only thing I could think of with scraping the piece of ****!!

In a laptop? I thought they only had space for one 2.5" HDD/SSD.

Lol sorry should have read that although some laptops do allow multiple drives not sure about your Tosh.

If you need storage you have a few options, add a bigger SSD or buy a external USB housing for your 1tb drive.

My thought exactly. And how would I go about swapping over Windows 8? Obviously it came preinstalled. Just a fresh install as usual?

God I hate laptops!

To be honest, I don't need the storage, my main PC would benefit from it more than this. I only use it for music and the odd occasion doing college work in bed, tonight for instance hence this thread :D

SSD it is then

Cheers guys!

I didn't even know there was a Laptop section on the forum! Otherwise i would have posted it there. Sorry.

Yup SSD will make all the difference, just clone it by connecting its current HDD and SSD to your desktop. Most come with software to do this.

You deffo wanna clone the HDD to the SSD,laptops are almost always supplied with OEM versions of windows, which usually means the key cant be reinstalled on the same machine with swapped out parts(or any other)

SSD's make a bigger difference to a laptop than Desktops,as standard HDD's for desktops are 7200rpm, whereas Laptop drives are usually 5400rpm

I was going to say clone it but I thought it would be nice for a fresh install. I didn't realise they had OEM keys. Although I might put the windows 10 preview on, I hate Windows 8 with a passion.

Redo the thermal paste? To be honest mate, I don't care about it enough to waste my thermal paste!

Its worth cloning,Win8 users get a free upgrade to win10 whenit officially launches,Win10preview will get abandoned and you would be left with no OS :/

My laptop is around 5 years old now with either the first or 2nd gen i5, I put an SSD in a couple of years ago it transformed it completely.

I did the thermal paste on it recently that also helped no end, the temps dropped by 10-15°C under load, helps keep the fan noise down.
