Depends what the current spec is... but RAM is always helpful upto around 1GB for multi-tasking, and a hard drive I find helps boot up speeds, but if you have plenty of RAM a hard drive is not going to make that much difference in every day usage.

Best way to keep a PC fast is to be careful about what you install on it, keeping things to the bare minimum equals a super strim speedy PC.

Get a 7200RPM HDD, Doesn't really matter what size, maybe 80gb or 100gb ?
Also get 1gb PC3200 ram and your comp should be noticeably faster ! :)
If you have a lot of money i would also get new CPU , MOBO and GFX ! lol :)

Make sure you get a fresh install of windows on it. Software could slow it down worse than any hdd could.

Good suggestions though, they know what they are talking about
