My Dad had a Toshiba Equium A100-147, it has a T2050 1.6Ghz Core Duo CPU and 2Gb of ram, its running XP Media Centre. Whats the best way to make it faster? Would a Vista install run any quicker? Or could we upgrade the CPU to a faster one? Does anyone know what CPU's it will take and how much difference it will make?

you could turn off the Intel cpu throttling (not sure what it's called, the AMD one is cool n quiet) in the bios so it runs at full speed all the time.

Also a fresh install of the OS always makes a PC go faster ;)

You could, but battery life would be affected iirc.

Have a look at the laptop makers website and see if they can tell you about a cpu upgrade (but a guess is no). I dont think you can fit any more ram in it either (as that chipset can only do single sided memory so its max is 2gig). Try a clean xp install (aka no oem software) as that should be a pretty fast laptop...
