Hi all

Im designing a site for a local Motorcycle dealer, its a simple enough site giving backround info on the shop and its location and so on.

The owners have just asked me to include a section for second-hand stock, and said that they want to be able to upload to this section. It will be 1 page with mabey 10 motorbikes but as they buy and sell bikes they want to edit it without my assistance.

Ive used Macromedia Fireworks and Dreamweaver to build the site, but im unsure of the best method I should use to enable the shop owners to edit the specific page in question. Im not a programmer so is there any free software available to make this easy for them (and me). :)

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You are probably going to need some kind of web application. This is will consist of a programme that executes when given input from a form on a HTML page.

Look at:

CGI-Scripting
PHP
and ASP.NET

You will also need some kind of data persistance- you might look at Flat Files, XML or a Database such as MySql, PostgresSQL or MS SQL Server.

Think about non-functional requirements such as security.

Thanks for the replies so far.

As far as using ASP is or similar methods I wouldnt know where to start, im only charging them a couple of hundred pounds so even if the method I use isnt perfect it will have to do :)

I know that the have microsoft Frontpage so I was thinking about leaving them a template of the page. They could then edit the content and upload it to the site using something like Cute FTP. I would lock all the tables so that it would be difficult for them to make any mistakes.

Not a perfect method though :(

What do you guys think?
