Best way to work abs from home?

Whats the best way to work your abs from home? I do go to the gym regularly but mainly for cardio work and prefer to lift weights (well try anyway) at home. I just want to work my abdominal area and make it a bit firmer.

Are simple sit ups the best way to really get them burning, or is there some relatively cheap equipment that i could invest in? I have googled but as you'd expect theres a LOT of hyped up crap on offer.
 
pikes would be a good start, only need a bench for that.

other than that, deadlifts and squats are good for your core muscles.

:D Exactly what I was thinking! I'm keen to know as my fitness routine is very similar to yours - cardio at the gym (cross trainer/bike/treadmill) and weights at home.
 
You don't like to run? ;) if you're doing your weights at home then you would save roughly 100% of the money you spend at the gym in you just went out for a run/cycle... ;)
