hi, all i've ever used is IE and was wondering if its worth changing to another browser and which is best.

also can i use IE and another browser at the same time or is it a case of using one or the other.

Everyone has their favourite, your best bet is to give them a try and decide which one you prefer. I've given the main ones a try but have stuck with Firefox since it was first out on beta.

Give this a read

From IE I went to firefox and I still do most of my browsing in it (has a great list of add ons so you can really make it the browser you want it to be). I also use Safari, just because I like the way it renders websites but I am pretty sure anything you use after IE will be a step up in performance and you may find many websites display correctly using these browsers where beforehand IE (especially 6!!) would break websites that had not been coded to put up with the many oddities that IE throws up.

I have always used IE7 but changed to FF so i could use Facebook Chat...haven't looked back. I did have to customise it to my liking - which was easy.

Yes. Install FireFox, Opera, Safari and Chrome and take your pick.

Opera is the best IMO, but far more people use FireFox.

Bit of an Opera fan-boy here, but have to admit that Iron (Chrome spin off) is much much faster. I'd use the latter - but for some reason you can't save sessions (of tabs).

There really is no "best" browser, it's all down to personal preference, just like anything in this world. Your best bet would be to try all the different browsers and see which one you prefer.

It's is down to personal preference, but hands down I find Firefox the fastest out of all the browsers especially the new beta build. Plus I like how customizable Firefox is, I can't browse the web with out Ad-Block plus. Plus other addon's such as Stylish which allows me to use different themes on this forum and download them all which is a great download manager and accelerator.

You certainly can have them all installed at the same time. I'd recommend you download a few, particularly Firefox, Opera and Chrome, and see which one suits you best. Make sure you check out some Firefox add-ons.

Common opinions of browsers are that Chrome is fastest, Firefox is the most customisable and Opera comes with the most built-in functions. Whatever you decide to use, it will be better than IE :)

i personal like firefox just for all the way it can be customised, though as everyone say play about, and check ou the firefox addon, some are really great

I have come across a number of your posts where you end up commenting on Internet Explorer which normally goes along the lines of what you have just said above.

What sort of things can other browsers do that Internet Explorer can't when you're just searching for things on the internet?

For someone that isn't interested in them though like myself, I honestly can't think of a single advantage that other browsers have over Internet Explorer.

Other browsers are standards compliant. That's a reasonably large advantage in itself. Other browsers are beginning to support CSS 3 - IE? No. I could go on but you get the drift.

In what way though? What advantages does it bring to me when typing an address into the address bar and waiting for the page to load up?

I am fairly vehemently anti-Internet Explorer, perhaps a little too vehemently. My main objections to IE are that it's slow and it doesn't comply to web standards. Admittedly, for an average user who is browsing the forums or YouTube, neither of those issues seem like a big deal. But the compound effect of them is to hold back the Internet. You can create some amazing interactive sites with modern web technologies, but most web developers will hold back on doing so because these features are either too slow in IE (e.g. Javascript) or aren't supported properly (e.g. numerous CSS features in addition to newer technologies such as SVG.) What's more, as someone who dabbles in web development, I know that a phenomenal amount of a dev's time is wasted in taking a site which works fine in Firefox, Chrome, Safari and Opera and hacking it to work with IE's shoddy rendering engine. This is time which could be spent making better websites.

Those arguments appeal more to the developer or web enthusiast than the average user - but aside from making the internet a better place, there are lots of more relevant reasons for a user to switch from IE. I'd say that almost everyone can benefit from at least one of the extensions supported by Firefox - and even if not, isn't everybody looking for faster and more reliable web browsing? Even if you're not interested in the advanced features supported by alternative browsers, the speed and reliability of Chrome or the smart location bar in Firefox are things which can make a big difference to daily web browsing.

However, one thing that annoys me is when people tell others to stop using IE because it's insecure. IE is the most secure browser on Windows Vista. You don't persuade people by lying to them.
