I have a website for my own buisness. I followed a tutorial and wrote it in notepad. It's hosted by tso, does the job and wouldn't win any awards. I set it up over 10 years ago and just continue to pay the hosting Co fees and have barely altered it.

My wife now wants a website and I have been tasked to provide.

Can anyone recommend a good hosting company where I can register a domain which has decent building tools, so it doesn't look like it's from the 90's like mine?

I still use Dream Host some 15/20 years on. It's about $100/year. Buy your own domain. Install WordPress using their auto-installer; grab a WordPress theme - job done. Delete it after a year when your wife gets bored.
