im looking at cold cathode, not sure if this is the brightest, as ive had led bars before and dont scatter lights, plus cause spot light effect i want some thing like this build has

they look like cold cathode ones but they also look like ones ive had before they either break or blow in months of using

cheers

You could always use LEDs and some sort of light diffuser under the floor?

Look for Scorchio's TJ07 mod on google (not sure about linkage rules on here)

no luck on the scorchio's mod and them revoltec ones look good,

like i say leds really dont give good out put for what im looking for, i want almost it as bright as if i had a cars head light bulb in there, which infact isnt a bad idea unless voltate drops would be to large? or is that im practical?

or i may be tempted to go for a clear acrylic case i spotted last year on fleabay iirc they were around £50 with about 6 fans and a controller

If you buy high quality cathodes, Then they won't break if you treat them right. They are very fragile though. Revoltec seem to be the best that I've used.

I've got two blue Akasa cathodes that have been running since mid 2003. I wouldn't say cold cathodes are prone to failure, regardless of manufacturer.

Try an electrical shop and ask for a 12V 3W GU10 LED bulb and fitting ( cost apprx £10 )

They will produce a brilliant white light with virtually no heat, however you will need to mount it somewhere out of sight for aesthetic reasons( they are the same size as a normal halogen lamp )

Downsides are possible ' spot ' effect ( which you didn't want ) and possible ampage on your 12V rail.

I have a few at home, i'll run a test later to see if they work.

^thanks thats what im looking for i think, the leds are so close together that it wont cause that spot effect rather light a room with a light on effect!! if that sounds daft thats the only way i can describe it!!!

Yep, they give a uniform spread of light. They are also very shallow so you can mount them virtually anywhere and they are very easy to hide.
