Hello,

I am trying to find a really good WiFi USB adapter. It is for a desktop but it is too far away from the router so I cannot go ethernet.

I will do a fair amount of gaming on the computer so I am looking for the absolute best possible as cheap solutions tend to have quite patchy reception (has to be very steady and don't drop).

Would be good if it is not too bulky but if this is the price I have to pay for good connection, it is ok.

I have looked at Edimax EW-7711UAn and Edimax EW-7811Un... Any good?

Cheers.

TBH if you want the best connection then it's got to be an internal card.

TBH if you want the best conection then it's got to be wired and in this case that means powerline, if it's just for gaming you will be fine with 80mbps kit which is pretty cheap these days. Provided your wiring isn't totally rubish you should have a considerably faster and more reliable conection.

Well he did say he didn;t want to go wired as the distance was too great, so when I said 'best connection' i meant wirelessly, which IMO means proper internal card and external aerial.

Have a look at powerline plugs as previously stated. Basically you connect a ethernet cable from your router to a plug, then it travels through your house electic cables to another plug where you connect a ethernet cable to from your pc, so you'll only need 2meters of ethernet cable, dont see how that won't suit from your description, your pc doesnt need anything upgraded, just a ethernet cable attached.

If you're dead set on wireless, I would recommend an internal card, but buying an aerial base to move the aerial away from the EM interference of your pc. They cost about a fiver, but greatly improve signal and speed in my experience.
