Best windows interface for htpc, MCE?

Odd title I know but I'm looking at building an htpc for someone and I'm looking at using the windows multimedia centre (bought from ocuk). me question is considering a family is going to be using this htpc. I need the simplest on screen interface, ie: prefferably not mouse driven, but handset driven. How easy is it for ppl not familiar with computers to use it?
I ask this because I built one a while back and the missus and kids looked at the interface and said "where do we start?" I'm looking for a sort of digital; set top box/PVR type interface, easy to understand and navigate.
Any suggestions?

Yep. For ease of use I think MCE wins hands down.
If it's for a new build, then just grab an OEM copy of XP Media Center or Vista Home Premium.
And be sure to get the Media Center remote to go with it.

There are similar third party products available - Media Portal is a good alternative, but it requires a bit more work to configure than MCE.
