best wired router?

At the moment i have:

Virgin Media Cable Broadband Connection ----> Modem ----> Old PC ----> 4 Port Switch ----> 3 PCs, 1 Laptop.

All the connections are wired, as the network was set up a long time ago and we already have ethernet cables running all around the house.

This means that whenever we need the internet, the old PC needs to be on, and that takes an age to boot up. So i am looking for a reliable wired router to replace the old PC and Switch.

what would you guys recommend at the <£50 Price range?

The suggestion of a Linksys WRT54GL and flash it with Tomato firmware is an old favorite around here.

As you don't want/need wireless just leave it turned off, though having it can be handy if you have someone visiting for instance or if you get a device like an iPhone

Lots of extra features - some of which may or may not be any use to you.

It's very stable too.
