Hi guys, I need to buy a wireless adapter for my friends pc, but i'm stuck on which one to go for..I wan't to get one that will be able to still download as fast as cable, if possible.

I looked at USB wireless and i think they can be more unpredictable/slower then PCI, any advice?

Thanks.

I haven't had any problems with USB adaptors. The reliablility is more a function of the router than the card. You might want to get something that has the 802.11n with backwards compatibility for g. THis will be more futureproof if your friend gets a new router.

The Edimax cards seem like good value though I haven't used them myself.

There isn't a huge difference really, there are only a few chipsets out there (e.g. Intel, RALink, etc) and most are fine.

Go for PCI though!

I had a couple of PCI adaptors and they were useless. With the antenna low down at the back of the PC, they could not get a strong enough signal. Switched to Netgear USB ones that come with a cable, so the adaptor itself sits stuck to the top side of the desk, and a strong reliable connection :-)

Using Linksys by Cisco WMP54G Wireless-G PCI Card over 2 years now never had any problem so far.
