best wireless router for cable broadband??

Belkin N1 cable router (wireless N and MIMO) is going pretty cheap these days.

I'd say the WRT54GL.

Flash it to Tomato / DD-WRT and you are good to go. Excellent router for an excellent price.

this, however i have no experience of it on a 50mb connection. does anyone here?

I would have thought that would depend on the modem, not the router.

You won't get 50mb over wireless with a 54g router like the WRT54GL.

Don't get the WRT54GL for 50mbit - I'm pretty sure I read that the maximum speed it'll hit is 33mbit due to the internal switch fabric.
