Hi all,

I'm currently having real problems with my PS3 and my Netgear DG834PN. At the moment it is connected via cable to the router but even so it causes massive packet loss on the network when the PS3 is on.
Basically I can't live with it anymore and have put the useless thing on fleabay.
My question is does anyone have experience of any N-series (or high speed) routers and the PS3?

Have you checked Netgear website for any updated firmware?

I tried it briefly with a DG834GT (108MBPS, if you have matching Netgear WLAN cards on PC they will connect at 108mbps). The speed for downloading was the same as wired. No packet loss etc or slowdown of other interfaces on the LAN (I would have noticed tbh).

However I now use Gigabit Ethernet. Granted your internet etc will be no faster, but once it supports higher bit rate content to be streamed, it will come into its own, with the extra bandwidth, streaming from PC etc.

Have you had to move your ps3 to use the wired connection? If the wired works and it is not a "messy cables in house" issue then leave it tbh. Nothing is more reliable than wired ethernet or offers more throughput. (plus the ps3 is only 802.11g so only 54mbps max, and you will never, ever get that data rate).

Trust me I have investigated all available options. Like many others my only option seems to be replacement. So far I have spent hours on this already.
Perhaps either a firmware update for the router or PS3 may solve this. However many people have been waiting for this for far too long already.

Unfortunatley the PN is the only Netgear ADSL outer I have not direct experience with, so can't offer any more specific advice.

Unfortunately the massive packet loss, for other network users, when the PS3 is on means that I have no other choice but to replace the piece of junk.
I'm thinking of switching back to Belkin, as I have never had any problems with their networking equipment.

I have experience with connecting a PS3 to a Netgear DG834N and WN802T access point.

Both were fine, but required a firmware update to work flawlessly (but that's a 10 minute job anyway).

Thanks. I was thinking of the dg834n. I was half-tempted not to use Netgear equipment again though after the fun I have had with this router and a couple of Netgear wireless cards.

I also have the DG834N, and that is quite unique to the other DG834's (What a crap naming regime)..

It uses the broadcomm viper chipset which is a very fast comms processor, I am a large downloader, have the Wii/PS3 connected wirelessly as well as the missus on her lappie, and I've never had any throughput issues at all..

Thanks Demon. Going to order it now. After my problems I wasn't going to bother but I guess some of the pre-n stuff is bound to have more conflict issues.
