Best wireless router? (Money no concern)

Currently I'm on a terribly unstable 2meg line and I have no option of connection to my Pc via cat5 so wireless is the only option.

Expected for February at my address is 76meg FTTC so I'm looking forward to that immensely.


My question is, what is the best wireless router I can buy that will handle my current and future connections and provide good wireless range and stability?

Recently bought an RT N66u myself as Virgin declined on giving me a free Superhub 2. Very happy with the performance, probably upgrade the firmware to Merlin at some stage.
£93 with p+p off eBay
 
RT-N66 if you don't care about AC.

if you do, then AC66 or newer AC68 as mentioned.

alternative is Billion BiPAC 7800DXL, but no AC here.
 
will you buy AC or N router? that is the question.

for now I'd get TP-Link TL-WN822N

it's good enough. the AC USB adapters cost 50-60 and are hit or miss.

I recently bought an AC68U and it is phenomenal, both in 2.4GHz and 5GHz and over AC or N connections. ASUS do make a dedicated PCI card that runs AC, too......although I don't need/use one.

Really quick in all usage I have experienced, and a really great featureset.
 
Cisco 887VA + Aironet AP :)

I set it up for many clients and I remember one did not require a reboot for 18 months!

However, there is no standalone 802.11ac from Cisco as far as I know

It is probably a little "6 of one, half-a-dozen of another"......I considered both, but felt that the ASUS offered a little more, and most reviews/feedback suggested the ASUS was the slightly better model - but I am pretty sure the EA6900 is far from poor, too....
By all accounts, the imminent Netgear R7000 Nighthawk may take over at the top of the pile, although reviews I have read suggest it is pretty neck-and-neck with the AC68U
 
To throw a different router into the equation I would recommend the Draytek 2830N - fantastic router.

The Asus is not going to be that good on a line with that length (assuming there isn't another issue lurking)

what's you current attenuation?
 
DOes it say fibre at your address in february or at your exchange?

Im no expert but if your on an unstable 2 meg line, that would suggest you are a long way from your cabinet
All im saying is dont get your hopes up for fibre

I don't know about most peoples experiences but i'm fairly close to the exchange which has had fibre for 3 months and I still cant get it
 
I like my billion 7800N can customise the Signal to noise ratio which may help get your current speed up, and supports fttc and can support BT Sport and the other multi cast channels which many routers have issues with, also has cool things like vpn end point to connect back to your network when out and about
 
I am ~5200m from the exchange which makes the line very, very unstable. However my exchange has been fibre-enabled for months and my local cabinet has just been upgraded to a fibre cabinet and it just waiting for mains power and final tests.
