Best Word Processing Software Today?

What is the best word processing software on the market today, and what rivals does it have?

Thank you

Depends on the use case really:

Microsoft Word - Almost a requirement for business use, as only way to ensure 100% compatibility with Customers etc. Only product that has a mature scripting language (vba), for automating tasks.

Apache Open Office (or Libre Office as mentioned) - Free alternative, will suit 90% of people

Google Docs - free and web based, limited formatting options so not going to rival Word any day soon, but is evolving everyday, and is more than enough for most home users I would think.

the new word is pretty similar to the older word, only jazzed up a bit. looks nice but if your on 2010 then you aint missing much

i'd say any version of word post 2007 would be more than adequate for pretty much everything considering thats what most of the computer literate planet is using.

Microsoft Office has always been at the forefront of office applications and I honestly can't see that ever changing. LibreOffice is the next best thing though they're usually a version behind in features.

You can't go wrong with either Office Word or LibreOffice Writer as they're both miles ahead of the competition. Lotus Symphony is also pretty good but they have dropped the ball in features in the last 10 years - it used to be better than Office in the 90's.

Try openoffice ive always used that because unlike wordpad and notepad it allows you to open word documents just doesnt cost a small fortune (its free)

MS office is the world best word processing software in the market nowadays, followed by Openoffice, Abiword, Jarte, Neoffice and many more.

Ms office/word is a paid software while the other can be got free of cost. Since i am a student that's why i am using abiword for my word processing which is good for basic processing. It was recommended by a blog http://www.wordprocessorfree.com. I was just amazed that there are plenty of free softwares available so that student can get benefits of them.

Office 2007 - best version of it , later versions are a PITA

free , libre office much better than open office (which is slowly dying)

Office 2010 really refined the Ribbon interface and introduced many of the user interface customisation features that 2007 was seriously lacking (such as easy user accessible way to create your own Ribbon tabs, and customise what is available on the default tabs).

If you don't care about that then 2007 is still fine.
