Ok, the $64000 question - which drivers are the best?

Am getting problems with screeching noises on my Vista64/XtremeMusic system and looking to update the gf's Vista32/XtremeAudio machine too.

I've seen comments that drivers from late last year are better than the current ones but then there's also these Daniel_k ones to think about.

For my system, I need rid of the screeching sound that's just cropped up.

For the gf's box, she's actually running some of the earliest Creative Vista drivers from the beginning of last year. These are missing the console gizmo and cause problems after hibernation but other than that do actually work. I'm looking to upgrade these to sort the hibernation issue and get the console back but not if I'm going to end up with audio glitches or screetching.

Is it primarily x64 that has the problems or does 32-bit Vista suffer too? I'm really confused about what drivers to install - I honest didn't realise what a mess this was until my card suddenly started making the screetching noises and I've been reading up on this forum a bit :(

Do a search for creative driver threads posted by me, The last unofficial set I posted are by far the best. Every feature on my elite pro works and the only problem is crackling on loading the map fall of Berlin on BF2142, everything else is fine.

Just make sure not to install the buggy POS media software, just the drivers and hardware control related stuff.

Thanks for that lay-z-boy, I presume you're on about your post titled "SB X-Fi and Audigy series Vista Support Pack v2.15.0004" ?

If so, the link doesn't seem to work any more - do you have another as I'm having trouble finding them?

Also, I note this doesn't work for the Xtreme Audio card that my gf uses. Is there a similar driver for this card or do I have to stick with the Creative ones?

Many thanks.

EDIT: Never mind, found a download for the drivers and also the 1.04.0078A set for the Xtreme Audio. Will try these out tonight - thanks again.

At the moment, the Creative driver issue is the only reason for me not getting Vista.

Are there drivers around for Vista that fix most of the problems?
