Hey guys, i currently have the EVGA X79 SLI motherboard, but i cant edit BCLK on bios or on software, and this was one of the most important things for me buying this processor.

Does anyone have any experience with X79 board, if so, please advise me on which one to get,

the list is here :

i would prefer to keep it low on price, a budget of around £220.00 ish, give or take a few, (Lower the better ofc)

It will be for gaming,

8 Options of RAM would be nice, but not necessary,

only running 1 graphics card.

in the past had 2 asus motherboards, 1 msi, 1 EVGA, so would be nice to have a gigabyte / asrock as a change, but not if they are not worth it :D

I have the Asus X79 Sabertooth, brilliant board. Stable, easy to use, cool and settings for overclocking and tuning RAM are damn good.

You wont get the best for that budget.

Rossi is correct for the money the Sabre is a great option.

What RAM you running as this is the most important factor with compatibility on X79

When you say you cant edit the bclk do you mean the option is there but it won't budge without instability or you don't have the option at all?

Despite the option to adjust the baseclock on x79, you won't be able to move it far, certainly not like the old FSB method of overclocking. Multiplier adjustment are still the preferred method for this round of CPU's.

I love the ASRock range, solid boards with a good BIOS. GIGABYTE are also very good as are ASUS and MSI. Each has it's quirks though so it depends what you want it for - overclocking? Features? Power efficiency?

I have tested motherboards from the majority of manufacturers and each manufacturer is better at one thing over the other. Asus make some great equipment but have poor aftersales support. GIGABYTE started off poorly but are now back to their best. MSI are quality as always but the BIOS can be tricky. ASRock seem to do all things very well at the moment and would be the board I went for if I was after a good all rounder. Just pick the one with the features you want and you're good to go.

You can move BLK very far with X79. 125BLk strap and 166BLK strap allow exactly that and a lot more flexibility with memory dividers. Infact all my CPU bar none prefer around 129 -131 BLK with lower PLL than stock. This drops the necessary Vcore for a given frequency as there is less modulation in the processors phase lock loop.

He isn't talking about the strap though afaik, he means manual baseclock adjustment which wont move far at all, +6 is about the max I've managed with my 3930k and 3960x.
