Beta of Windows 7 update due in July

Microsoft said Monday it expects to have a public beta by July for the first service pack update to Windows 7.
The announcement came at the start of Microsoft's TechEd conference, being held this week in New Orleans. :eek:

Hmm just seems to be a collection of all the updates rather than anything new?

Yup:

"For Windows 7, SP1 will simply be the combination of updates already available through Windows Update and additional hotfixes based on feedback by our customers and partners. In other words, customers can feel confident about deploying Windows 7 now."

Well tbh I cant really fault anything in win7 so far apart from not being able to use windows media player in 'mini mode'

Most of the SP1 attention has been focused on Server 2008 R2 - RemoteFX being a biggy. It is Remote Desktop with graphics acceleration. However, only really works with Hyper-V.

But it basically means thin clients can now do stuff like CAD without blowing up or grinding to a halt.

As always, don't use alpha/beta SP's on a live everyday system, unless you can afford to format
