Just a heads up that the current beta clients will expire from the end of tonight - I believe that Linux clients may be ok as when they expired earlier than expected on 15th Jan Vijay may have put a longer date than 1st Feb as the expiry date.
Probably worth updating the Linux client anyway so as not to get caught out when it does expire - also OS X clients which didn't expire on 15th Jan will need updating now.

GPU clients will also need to be re-downloaded as these too expire tonight
To save removing the service and reconfiguring the new client I simply rename the old client and change the name of the new client to what the old one was (obviously stopping the client/service first :p)

Will the expired SMP clients just stop or is it just when you reboot? If the latter then I can ignore it for a bit cos I dont intend to reboot any time soon. Thanks for the heads up though.

It'll no longer be able to download new WUs. You'll have to upgrade.

I thought it only checked when the client was started (or infact doesn't start as a window flashes up then dissapears too fast to read)
I was only going from my (admittedly terrible) memory. You're more of an authority on this than I am. ;)

well when it expired early on 15th Jan we were told it would continue to run as long as it wasn't restarted - I assume this time it will be the same

as far as I know this is just an expiry date change rather than any major changes so there wouldn't be any need to force old clients not to get new work

edit: though who knows - this is half the fun of beta testing for Stanford :D

It only checks on startup. Either that, or I'll have an idle Mac tomorrow. :)

(You think I'm going to interrupt a WU to update - not on your life :D)

Edit: Well, I had no choice - stupid Mac lost it's Airport connection - again.

Just updated my mac's SMP client. There's no need to wait until the end of a WU, I replaced the two files it gives you (fah5 and mpiexec) and it just contined from where it left off.

Thanks for the heads up, Rich. Would have missed it without you.
