My son has installed beta software by mistake -version 3.0- on his I phone and now he cant activate it as he is not a developer..if he tries to put it in recovery mode to restore it it just freezes.

So how do I fix this do I have to take it back to apple or can I fix it

Thanks

your son ;)

im sorry to say this but its bricked mate, loads of ppl on macrumours have done this and apple wont touch it, keep an eye on the threads as there might be a fix.

Ahh really :( it really was my son that did this honest!
He said something about you can become a developer for £45 that would then allow him to register it ?? I am then guessing he could then restore if he wanted ??

I thought it was $99 it might work but im not sure, i wont be trying 3.0 until its official

Yes he will have to get the developer account and then tie the phone to it.

It will cost him either $99 or £99.

Should have read the instructions and the warnings as he, at the moment, can't go back.

Hardly by mistake either, he'd have gotten it illegally most probably then forced iTunes to flash it.

He says he just got it off the net and it was an ISPW file and then installed like any other firmware

In which case he would have read all the warnings if he got it off a forum.

He was silly and now has to either shell out for a dev account or live with a bricked iPhone until June/July.

I really don't see how it was an accident ;) as the warnings were there from day 1 im sorry to say!

How old is he btw?

Edit: There may or may not be a jailbrake for it later on, but for the moment its pay or stuck :S (2G or 3G?)

He is 13 years old I am disappointed to say he didn't read it at all, guess he couldn't be bothered kids!
I have told him so many times don't fix what isn't broken...but will he listen  oh yeah and it is 3G

Wow :/ a expensive phone at 13!

Its a learning curve for him now, teach him not to rush things and always read it up.

Im not a parent (only just stopped being a child @ 19 lol :p) but yea he has two choices! Pocket money gone for a while or no fancy phone for a while :p

I have managed to get it back to 2.2.1 thank god :)

this is what I did
1) open itunes
2) get iphone in DFU mode
3) select restore iphone (using the original 2.2.1 firmware, not the custom one)
4) let iphone do the restart process until you get ERROR 1013
5) close itunes
6) open quickpwn. you will get a message saying to hold power and home for 15 seconds. do it exactly like that hold the power and home for 15 secs.
7) turn on iphone by holding power button for 2 secs
8) open itunes and BINGO iphone is recognize and activated
