Beter to run 1:1 ?

Just wondering about this, is it better performance wise to run 1:1 with your cpu or to run mem at something higher ?

EG:

I have Q6600 @ 360fsb so would it be better for me to run my DDR800 @ 720mhz 1:1 instead of its current speed of 860 ?

You may aswell anyway, but it will only help benchmarks, won't give you a performance boost unless your FSB is equally increase and even then it's more to help CPU clockspeed. I can run my Ram at 760 1:1, or 930 or so, 5:6. (it won't hit over 832 1:1..i haven't a clue why this is the case), but i choose 760 at the moment because it creates less ehat i guess.
 
overclocking ram gives next to nothing in performance gains in games(intel cpu's).
not sure abt decoding and other stuff.

Assuming it doesn't affect your overclock or system stability, it's always better to run your RAM as fast as possible.

On my current system and overclock I've actually found that 1:1 (fsb 1440, ram 720) is more stable than running my RAM at stock (i.e. using a ratio to clock it down to ~675).
 
I run my Q6600 with a 400 fsb x9 multi @ 1:1 to give me a stable 3.6ghz

The ram will easly do more but everything seems to run smoother at 800mhz - 1:1
 
Mine runs smoother at 1:1 3.4Ghz w/ 758Mhz. If I try to get that little extra to 800Mhz it won't be stable for toffee. Of course, that's not the case for everybody.
 
I run my RAM at FSB:RAM 4:5 so it's at 938Mhz. But as said running mem speed faster than FSB only really helps benchmarks, real life difference is small and in games it's probably a couple of frames faster at best.
 
I actually did a test and found that increasing RAM speed from 1:1 720MHz 5-5-5-18 (@1.8v) to 5:6 860MHz 4-4-4-12 (@2.0v) increased my 3dmarks by not even 100 points...lol! and that increase was largely to a slightly higher OC to the GFX shader clock!
