Since these two are essentially the same company now, are there any pros and cons for each?

-Be is on a 3 months cancellation notice vs o2 1 year contract.

I d appreciate your comments regarding service and reliability (maybe they still keep the departments separate?)

cheers

There was a post on the Be or o2 forums comparing the two. I'll see if I can find it for you.

From what I remember everything was exactly the same apart from the services offered (cheaper to go with Be if you want a static IP).

You can get o2 much cheaper if you are already a mobile customer. Maybe you can "simulate" the mobile membership :p?

When I enquired with Be (Im sure they had already been taken over by O2 when I enquired beginning of May) I mentioned that I had an 02 mobile and I got no discount or offered any

Ok cheers - seems a bit of a con (as they are the same company, but no matter, Im still getting a decent internet connection

They've just decided to maintain two distinct brands...which was a relief to many at the time who were worried about how the o2 takeover could negatively impact Be (luckily, it doesn't seem to have done so..yet).

I appreciate that - however its still O2 and I believe they still use the same infrastructure

I can see why they might chose not to, but because of the above Be could at least advise 02 customers that it is possible to save some money by calling the same company under a different brand (and £1 per completed diverted deal instead of £5 for every sale they make - or whatever deal they get)

02 still get the same amount of money - they potentially have happier customers, and their workforce are happy (or have potential for getting less irritated calls back enquiring about nto getting the advice)

They're two distinct ISPs, even if they're on the same network. It's the same with UKOnline and Sky. It's the same with god-knows how many other companies that offer the similar products under different branding.

If you go with Be rather than o2 you're getting different means of customer and tech support and the ability to raise tickets via their website (which you can't do with o2). Static IPs are also cheaper/free on Be, so there's that option.

At the end of the day, they're selling different products that happen to use the same network.

For the shareholders it will not matter whoever gets the money, but for the senior people in both companies it will affect their fat bonus if they lose customers. :p
