Currently using a Yamaha RX-379 and will be looking at going the Dolby Atmos route soon (ish). As I'm getting on a bit I find a lot of background music annoying and too loud. Do newer/better/more expensive receivers do a better job of separating speech from music so I can reduce the music level. If so any recommendations? Speakers are currently Tannoy.
Andi.

Use night mode or dynamic range compression. A new £2000 avr will be the same as yours except more power.

Some might have speech enhancement my lexicon mx-8 has this, it's not a simple increase in channel level

I agree - several previous discussions on this

I think you need the ability to equalize the sound from the voice channel and the other channels independantly, but I'm not sure if any of the audyssey/dirac/ systems permit this ... had been researching it for some relations.

but the BBC were discussing this week whether they would provide alternative 'non-immersive' streaming soundtracks;
could not find the article, but basically they produce an impossible in real life sound-space - WTH ?
did find this , which is somewhat related Developing Tools for Live Binaural Production at the BBC Proms
