Hi all,

Running a Q9550 at stock within a Gigabyte GZ-X1 case with two Vipers up front one Viper at rear, CPU cooler is a Scythe Kama Angle.

This kept my old dual core nice n cool but recently re-installed with a Q9550 and some MX-3 with two re-seats and current temps still seem off? It has put me off OC'ing so far.

Core 0-41*C low
Core 1-27*C low
Core 2-40*C low
Core 3-36*C low

Now the Scythe only has the push fit option, was wondering if buying the optional screw down backplate may help, it was initially bought for quiet cooling.

So now thinking? What if there are better CPU cooling options out there, preferably with out the push pin connection and no higher than the Scythe Kama?

Prolimatech Megahalems are good air coolers, as are the Thermaltake Frio.

Cheap, easy liquid - Look at corsair H50. (also mounts with proper backplate, or evern their H70 :)

Thought I would have a quick play with OC to see what temps are like with current set up.

45/32/40/38 low and 61/46/54/50 high with no stress testing, just booting into Windows with an 8.5 x 400Mhz OC giving 3.4Ghz, so I gave Prme a little run and stopped the test at 71*C as I thought it probablly a good indication of better cooling required if OC'ing.

According to CPU-Z core voltage is at 1.36v? So back to stock for now.

Hi Wayne,

Yeah your right, it's not the best case, it only cost me around £15

I had almost bought the Fractal F2 but was put off with a thread stating it had issues with the Seasonic X series PSU fan placement? Not had any real confirmation one way or the other about this, other case I liked was the Lian Li X-1000, I like the depth but not the height and cost. I was also unsure wether or not I was going to ditch S775 for micro ATX i7 back when I was thinking of a case.

A new case is still on my mind though.

Back to this issue though, the above temps are with the side of the case removed.

On the front of that case below the DVD drive is a Scythe Kama Bay with a Viper 120mm fan pulling air in unobstructed.

Below that, in front of the HDD's is a Viper 120mm fan which replaced the stock fan pulling air in.

At the rear the stock 120mm fan has been replaced with a Viper 120mm fan blowing air out.

My Scythe Kama Angle cooler sits with its Viper 120mm fan blowing air up toward the rear upper corner, so gets aided by the rear fan blowing air out and the PSU fan blowing air out when it comes on.

All the rear PCI-slots are vented with Silverstone vented slots, the GPU is a HD4870 Toxic vapor cooled thingy pulling air from the bottom of the case and blowing it out the rear.

So I would guess that even with a new case, the Kama CPU cooler may be a little out of it's depth due to it being push fit connections?

Idle temps this morning are 48/35/43/48 high.

The Prolimatech Megahalems (try saying that when you've had a skin full) costs a lot money by the time you factor in fans and optional thermal paste.
