Better CPU fan for S478 Prescott 3.2?

At the moment I have a Prescott 3.2 with a stock fan. The reason for this is that I have got an ABIT IC-7 Max 3, which allows massive overclocks just by changing the FSB, and obviousely the best airflow would be good, but it is space restricted. I did have a Thermalright, but thats far too big, as its only designed with enough space for a stock heatsink.

Anyone know of a better heatsink thats the same size as the stock one?

Unless, of course, im the only one with one of these getting-to-be ancient chips and makers have given up creating stock sized but cooler heatsink/fan?

Is the Freezer 4 better than the stock cooler and the same size as the stock cooler? I just bought a Thermalright SI-120 before and it did not fit the board because of all the special features so its very tight. Currently using stock cooling, but I have a monster overclockable board, and want to use something that will let me crank the FSB right up without it melting!

I had a Coolermaster Hyper-6 with Noiseblocker S4 attached. Its an awesome cooler and kept my 3Ghz Northwood very cool at 3.6Ghz while being quiet at the same time.
Wish I could fit it on my PM, but I didn't have the nerve to try it.

I think that I would be satisfied with a Thermalright, but its those damn space restrictions due to the OTES & the fan-cooled North Bridge, both of which are on either side so they didnt leave hardly any room at all.

If I had a Freezer 4, how much could I overclock my 3.2? I have an IC-7 Max3, so it is really easy to push up the speed as much as I can safely do

i have overclocked my prescott 3.2 using the freezer 4 to 3.8 without any voltage increase and the temps didnt go up much at all. thats with 2x 12 cm and 1x 9 cm case fans

See my post (last one in thread) Here :)

I never realised you posted back in that thread, must have lost it somehow. I dont really want to remove that OTES cover, as im sure that its best left well alone as I wont be able to overclock much without it.

Without removing it, which coolers work properly? I know the Thermalright SI-120 doesnt fit due to where everything is, hence the question. If all I can fit is an Arctic Cooler 4 then I will, but even that one looks a little big

I use the Freezer 4 on my 2.4 Northwood and have had it up to 3.0GHz (about 44c load).
Not particularly noisy but not particularly quiet either - much better cooler than stock.

Stan :)

I know that I need something as I have clocked it from 3.2 to 3.5, but the problem is that it will sometimes lock while playing NFS: Most wanted for example, and after quitting my ABIT software monitor says that my Prescott is at around 70C

I need a more powerful cooler and I need one now. Just a shame I cant have the quietness with the huge overclocking potential

The problem that I am facing is that it is very cramped in the CPU area, so I need a stock sized cooler, nothing bigger otherwise it simply wont fit. Any air coolers that can cool like a Prometia but are stock-sized?

Whip off the OTES cover it hardly does anything like most of these things it's a bit of a gimik and you'll get much better overclocks with a decent CPU cooler

I thought that OTES system was very important?

Anyway, it still wouldnt fit because there is a air cooled northbridge on the other side. Sounds like I need to take the mobo apart to fit any large air cooled unit on. I need quite a long-term solution as this will need to last me another year before I get the cash together for a mega-upgrade.
