Better CPU

Can't afford to upgrade my whole system as of yet, and when i do it will be for Intel.

Currently using an AMD Opteron 146 clocked to 3GHZ.

Would a AMD® Athlon 64 X2 be a better CPU as Vista says my CPU is my bottleneck, if so, what X2 chip should i look at.

I'm socket 939 by the way.

What is the rest of your PC?

What do you want more performance in?

2gb G.skill ZX RAM
Geforce 7800GT OC
Asus Xonar D2X
80gb hdd/2x250gb hdd's

Just general tasking and gaming.

Dual would be good though not cheap. Opty 165 upwards. Price depends on OC.

An 8800gt 256 for £50 would give you far more than the cpu upgrade
