Better DSL sync after replacing answerphone

The answerphone broke (a wireless Binatone thing I bought in about 2004).

Got a new one.

Now my ADSL syncs about 1.5Mbit/s faster!

What the hell?! I thought the NTE5 w/ built-in ADSL filter (from the early years of Engineer Install) would filter out all the voice frequencies?

Did the old answerphone have a high Ren value? I've known this to drag the adsl down, even on an old 'engineer install' like mine.

The ADSL side of a filter is just a wire, so if it introduces any interference it'll just get passed straight through. It's the same reason you can plug a phone into the ADSL side (if you have a cable with an RJ11 on the end, at least).
