Looking at these two PC's which would be better for games?

- CPU: Intel Core i5 750 2.66GHz overclocked to 4.00GHz
- RAM: Corsair XMS3 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel
- Sapphire Radeon 5850 1024MB GDDR 5

Or this one that has just appeared today.

Case: Antec 300 Gaming Case - Black
- CPU: Intel Core i7 920 D0 2.66GHz Overclocked to 4.00GHz
- Cooler: Corsair H50 Watercooling
- RAM: Patriot Viper 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 (1600MHz) Tri-Channel
- Graphics Card: HIS ATI Radeon HD 5770 1024GB GDDR5

Depends on the resolution really - plus future games will push hardware more.

At present and at resolutions of 1920x1080+ i'd say the i750 and 5850 system is the one to choose since the gpu is that bit better!

gt

the first one definatly

very few games are cpu limited, so having a better cpu generally doesn't make that much of a difference.

for most games, the i7's are generally overkill

the main componant would be the gpu, so getting a better gpu would give the best performance in games

Cheers guys, ordered the 1st one not 5 minutes ago, then clicked on the Gamer titan -Intel range and noticed the 2nd one and though maybe I ought to get that one instead:eek::p

Im gonna go against the crowd and say go for the i7. More future proof as its the newest socket and graphics card is easier to replace (or xfire) when you need it.

It's actually not the "newest socket" the 1156 socket came out some time after the 1366/X58 platform ;)

As for future proofing, you can always upgrade to a core i7 860/870 with the P55/H55/H57 chipset boards anyway.

Definately the best option there for gaming is the core i5 - 5850 spec, no question.

How about giving OcUK a ring and ask them if they can swap the 5770 for a 5850 if you pay extra for the 2nd option? :p
The motherboard of the i5 750 build in option 1 would most likely not support crossfire...and not even sure if it has USB3.0 and 6Gb/s SATA or not. i7 920's build would most likely be using the Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R board, which would support Crossfire, and has USB3.0 and 6Gb/s SATA. Also being one of the fastest X58 board, it offer higher minimum frame rate than i5 750.
