Better GPU or get an SSD?

Right I'm making an £800 build, I know everything I want components wise, it's just one thing that I'm having trouble deciding between. I've never had an SSD before and I've heard the speed boost they give to the PC booting up and the loading times of programs that are installed on them is pretty awesome.

However I want this new rig to last as long as possible before it needs an upgrade, so obviously a better GPU would help in that respect.

The decision is basically between..

Get a HD7950 and OC it to 7970 stock (so 800mhz to 925, 5000 to 5500) and get a 128mb SSD, M4 or Samsung.

Or get no SSD and pick up an HD7970 (or GTX 670, but the new drivers seem to give the HD7970 a noticeable edge from what I've seen).

your input folks?

If the HD7950 Clocks to HD7970 specs then why spend the extra, unless you would also want to overclock the HD7970.

HD7950 + 128Gb Samsung SSD (not 128Mb lol)

7950 and 128gb SSD.

7950 is only marginally slower than the 7970 and can be OC'd to it anyway.

you will notice this better than just getting a 7970 for the extra 10 or so fps

You so know I meant Gb's :p

Yeah well I've read comparisons and it appears that a HD7950 can be very easily OC'd to 7970 stock settings without a voltage tweak. The 7970 is still slightly superior, but there's only about 4-5% in it, so we're talking just a couple of FPS and for the basically £100 saving, it seems a good idea to me. Only thing is an OC'd 7970, I assume, can quite easily pull ahead.

It's been ages since I've upgraded, this rig is 4-5 years old. Not sure how a HD7950 (OC'd) is going to handle games being released in Q4 of this year, so Dead Space 3, Crysis 3, Aliens: Colonial marines etc. I only have a 1680x1050 monitor at the moment. Though in Feb I may well get me a 1920x1080 res monitor.

if ur only at 1050 as well no point in the 7970 as your monitor will only be 60hz.

you will deffinatly get more than 70 / 80fps in those games at tht res with an overclocked 7950

The SSD would give you a much more noticible performance boost in day to day activities than the 7970 would. Go for the 7950 + SSD
