I've got 2x 512mb PC3200 TwinMOS DDR in my system at the moe, but i wish to upgrade to 2gb.

Now would it be better to get rid of my current TwinMOS and buy PC400) or higher ram? This way i could push the CPU futher without dropping the RAM Speed as i cant up the volts on my current board.

Or should i just grab 2x512mb more PC3200 ram? i kinda know what you guys will suggest already but there we go :) just want to make sure first!

Yeah i assumed it would be better to go with 2x1gb, i should go with tighter timings other than high clock speed shouldnt i?

An opty 146 is a 10x multiplyer yeah? So you're not gonna get to 3GHz without dropping the RAM speed are you? I doubt that RAM can do DDR600?

Personally I'd stick some more of the same in and run the RAM at DDR400 on tighter timings.

If someone can explain why that's wrong I'd appreciate it.

if you go for 4x512 then you have to run at 2t instead of 1t which harms performance a fair bit as i understand it, plus u're not likely to be able to run tight timings with 4 sticks, possible but not likely from threads i've seen.

best to go with the 3200 has it has good tight timings can overclock a bit and running the divider wont hurt it as much.

Hi,

there is a good article called *AMD Athlon 64 Processors on E Core: Memory Controller Peculiarities in Detail* over at Xbit labs have a read. . .

While I agree that running your memory at 1t is preferable, it's not such a big deal as other would make out!

Yes yes, if u can run 1t then cool, but if you are having system crashes or anything else rubbish happen then switching from 1t to 2t will probably cure it.

Hmmmm i think it would be bit hard to source some more TwinMos sticks now anyway, ive also read that the actual in game performace is not hit that much when using 2t, i actualy leave the ram at its SPD timings as ive no idea what these TwinMOS Sticks can handle :/ im not even sure if there the decent sticks that were kicking about awhile back!

Do you mean me? I edited what I said because i'm now running the RAM @ 250 (DDR333 divider) but its only 1 second faster in 1MB PI so running the RAM on a DDR266 divider is perfectly fine:)

I couldnt get it to boot anyway :)

Stick at DDR333 and 265HTT that seems the most i cant get with this chip on the ASRock and its poor 1.45 volts :/

Arrr just read that the 1.50bios on the ASRock wont let you boot with FSB/HTT higher than 174, strange! im going to try one of the beta bio's which are supose to let you hit up too 400htt/fsb

Right, i shall try the early beta's then!

Looks like i dont need to worry about the memory upgrade then :S altho it would be good to find out what timings this TwinMos can take

You can get some DDR4800. But as far as I am aware these generally run at 2T. But I am sure someone will correct me (Hottiger proberbly, he seems to follow my posts around ;)).
