Better MPG while decelerating or on idle?

Owch, 11k eh :D I swear Ive killed a car that way because the limiter didnt kick in, I think I bent the valve springs but really I have no idea except it kangaroo'd a lot after that. Couldnt have been that bad because the 'scrappys' repaired it and ran it for another year :o

Theres a great vid around where a kid does similar and sends the pistons through the rocker cover it looks like
 
I was very lucky. This one had the uprated STI internals and I think god was sitting on my shoulder both days. The 11K is a guesstimate not knowing ratios but the engine redlined at 8.5K and I was in the 8's in 4th on both occasions when making my booboo lol. Whatever it was it was a hell of a lot higher than the redline.
